Westerner Days 2026 Brings Community Together for Five Days of Celebration, Tradition and Lasting Memories

RED DEER, AB – For five unforgettable days, Westerner Park once again became the gathering place for Central Alberta as families, friends and visitors came together to honour agriculture, community and traditions that have defined Westerner Days for generations.

As one of Central Alberta’s largest annual events, Westerner Days continues to be much more than a fair. It brings people together, supports local businesses and community organizations, showcases the region’s agricultural roots, and creates lasting memories for thousands of residents and visitors each summer.

Held July 15–19, Westerner Days 2026 welcomed guests to experience the excitement of the West Coast Amusements Midway, Kidventure, Agventure, The Junction, The Market and nightly entertainment while the North American Pony Chuckwagon & Chariot Races once again thrilled crowds throughout the five-day event.

It wouldn’t be Westerner Days without pancakes. Twenty-eight community organizations welcomed thousands of hungry fairgoers with pancake breakfasts across Central Alberta, continuing one of the region’s most cherished traditions. These breakfasts not only brought neighbours together but also helped

local organizations raise funds and strengthen the sense of community that makes Westerner Days so unique.

The celebration officially began with one of the region’s most anticipated traditions, the Westerner Days Parade. Featuring more than 126 entries, the parade welcomed thousands of spectators to downtown Red Deer. Leading the procession was Honorary Parade Marshal George Young, recognized for more than 60 years of dedicated volunteer service to Westerner Park, alongside Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, who joined the community in marking the opening of the fair.

This year’s fair also introduced several exciting new experiences. Guests were welcomed into the new Métis Village, celebrating Métis heritage through storytelling, demonstrations and interactive experiences. Visitors also gathered at the new Dig In with Cat Rentals – Grub Hub, proudly sponsored by Finning CAT Rentals, creating another welcoming space for families and friends to connect and enjoy the fair.

Beyond the fairgrounds, Westerner Park once again partnered with Ronald McDonald House Charities Alberta to present Share the Fair, bringing a little bit of Westerner Days to families unable to attend in person. Performances and activities featuring Little Rodeo Pro, Dogs Do Magic, Doo Doo the Clown, Junior Firefighting, and Dan the One-Man Band created special moments for children and families staying at Ronald McDonald House.

Saturday evening’s unexpected summer windstorm tested operations, but thanks to the coordinated efforts of Westerner Park staff, contractors, emergency services, West Coast Amusements and event partners, the grounds were safely secured and festivities continued, allowing guests to enjoy the remainder of the evening, including the highly anticipated fireworks display.

One of the signature attractions of Westerner Days remained the North American Pony Chuckwagon & Chariot Races, where some of the sport’s top competitors entertained thousands throughout the five-day competition and continued a proud western tradition that remains a cornerstone of the fair.
