Westerner Park and Red Deer County Launch Discover Ag

Westerner Park, in partnership with Red Deer County, is proud to launch Discover Ag, a new agriculture education event designed to connect young students with Central Alberta’s agricultural roots through hands-on learning.

Taking place over three days, Discover Ag will welcome more than 1,000 Grade 5 students from both the City of Red Deer and Red Deer County on April 16 and 17. Hosted at Westerner Park, the event will offer interactive exhibits and real-world experiences where students can explore modern agriculture, food systems, and the role agriculture plays in everyday life.

“This program is about creating meaningful connections between young people and the land that sustains our communities,” said Shelly Flint, CEO of Westerner Park. “Agriculture is part of our foundation in Central Alberta, and giving students the chance to experience it firsthand helps build understanding, respect, and a stronger future for our industry.”

Discover Ag was created through a partnership between Westerner Park and Red Deer County, with the County playing a key role in bringing the vision for this event forward.

“Red Deer County is proud to partner on Discovery Ag and bring this remarkable opportunity to students across our region,” said Brent Ramsay, Mayor of Red Deer County. “Connecting youth to agriculture and promoting farm safety is important to our community, and we’re proud to support an event that highlights the strength of our agricultural industry.”

The community is also invited to experience Discover Ag during a public open day on April 18.
