Westerner Days 2025 Wraps Up with Community Spirit, Big Talent, and Lasting Memories
July 21, 2025

Mother Nature threw a few curveballs, but that didn’t stop Westerner Days 2025 from serving up five amazing days of fun, connection, and pure community pride. From the first beat of the parade to the final boom of fireworks, Red Deer’s spirit was out in full force!
“Westerner Days is a reflection of the community we’re proud to serve. It’s not just about entertainment—it’s about connection,” said Shelly Flint, CEO of Westerner Park. “We are honoured to host this celebration that brings families, neighbours, businesses, and visitors together. It’s our privilege to create a space where Central Alberta’s spirit truly comes alive.”
The week kicked off in true Western fashion with a lively downtown parade. Crowds lined the streets to cheer on floats from local organizations, schools, and businesses. You could feel the energy; children waving, music playing, and that unmistakable sense of summer tradition returning once again.
Over at the main stage, the nights were nothing short of electric. On Friday, Canadian rock icon Sass Jordan brought down the house with a high-powered, nostalgic set. Then on Saturday, Alberta’s own Corb Lund took the stage, weaving stories and songs that struck a deep chord with fans who grew up on his music. It felt like the perfect mix of local pride and world-class talent.
Over five engaging performances, the RCMP Musical Ride captivated visitors with its elegance and precision. Each show was preceded by a crowd-pleasing demonstration from the RCMP Police Dog Service, showcasing the skill and teamwork behind their vital work. Together, they offered a unique glimpse into the history and service behind these iconic symbols of Canadian heritage.
But some of the most special experiences didn’t happen on stage at all. Pancake breakfasts and BBQs popped up across the city, thanks to local businesses and service clubs. Office windows were decorated, storefronts were dressed for the occasion, and Red Deer came alive in every corner—not just at Westerner Park.
One of the most meaningful highlights this year was the return of “Share the Fair” visit to Ronald McDonald House. Members of the RCMP Musical Ride, alongside entertainers like Doo Doo the Clown and illusionist Aaron Matthews, brought a little piece of the fair to families staying close to the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.
We were also honoured to welcome Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, who joined the Kickoff Luncheon as Guest of Honour. Her participation underscored the pride Albertans feel in celebrating community traditions like Westerner Days
Although the final round of the North American Pony Chuckwagon and Chariot Races was sidelined by weather, the events that did go ahead were packed with thrilling competition and high energy. We celebrated the winners based on those early heats: Marvin Hubl representing Willow Butte Cattle Company was named Pony Chuckwagon Champion, sponsored by BrokerLink Insurance; Darren Twerdochlib, driven by Brett Dubuc and representing Vision Credit Union, took home Chariot Champion honours, sponsored by Bettenson’s Sand and Gravel; and Dallas Langevin of Independent Controls Services earned Best Dressed Team, sponsored by Speedpro Signs.
From morning to night, Westerner Days buzzed with activity. The monster truck roaring to life, lumberjacks showcasing their skill, kids laughing at the petting zoo, and the midway filled with music, lights, and cheers. Each evening ended with a bang as fireworks lit up the sky and families celebrated together. Whether on stage, in the stands, or out in the community, Westerner Days 2025 brought people together, creating moments of joy, pride, and shared tradition that reminded us all why this celebration matters.
We can’t wait to do it all again next year.
