The ENMAX Centrium expansion is a major upgrade to the existing ENMAX Centrium.
The upgrade includes 13 more luxury suites, 40 club seating seats as well as an additional 1,000 seats added to the 6,000 seat ENMAX Centrium facility.
The groundbreaking of the ENMAX Centrium Expansion Project will take place on April 16, 2012 and is estimated to be completed by the 2012/2013 Red Deer Rebels hockey season.
While construction is underway, it is "business as usual" at Westerner Park.
At Westerner Park, we feel strongly that in order to honour the past, we need to have a plan for the future. That's why we've embarked on a bold and innovative long-term redevelopment project.
In May of 2008, our Board of Directors approved a Strategic Development Plan that outlines an exciting new vision, acting as the blueprint for Westerner Park's growth over the next 40 years.
In 2009, we proudly completed Phases 1 and 2 of the Strategic Development Plan, opening several great new facilities and outdoor spaces.
In 2011, we worked closely with the municipal and provincial government to secure plans for the ENMAX Centrium Expansion Project. Although the expansion was not expected until closer to 2015, our Strategic Development Plan's flexibility enabled our Board of Directors to shift focus
to this project.
And that's just the beginning. Even more beautiful park areas, pedestrian-friendly walkways and corridors, improved parking and traffic access, and clustered 'neighbourhoods' of related spaces and facilities are still to come!
Total grant funding for this $3.5 million project will come from the Province of Alberta's Community Facility Enhancement Program ($1.75 million), The City of Red Deer ($1 million), and Red Deer County ($500,000). Westerner Park will make up any shortfalls in the total construction cost.
The ENMAX Centrium Expansion Project was awarded to Group2 Architecture Engineering Ltd. as a result of their wealth of experience and architectural strategy related to comprehensive expansions such as the ENMAX Centrium expansion.
The expansion will have significant economic impact on central Alberta in attracting national, international and world events to Westerner Park.
It will help us secure new sales opportunities such as major artists along the likes of Elton John as well as large-scale events like the Brier and Memorial Cup.
No, fortunately the majority of construction will take place within the ENMAX Centrium so the Westerner Park grounds will not be affected.
No, events that have already been booked prior to the expansion will not be impacted by the expansion.
We are sticking to the catch-phrase that during the construction, it is "business as usual". For those events taking place at Westerner Park during the construction, the same safety measures that are enforced year-round will continue to be put in place throughout the duration of the expansion project.
